Hate crimes

A hate crime is any crime committed against someone because of their disability, transgender identity, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

It can include threatening behaviour, assault, robbery, damage to property, inciting others to commit hate crimes and harassment.

Harassment

Harassment is any unlawful behaviour that makes someone feel intimidated or offended.

Persistent unwanted conduct towards someone because of their age, sex, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, or sexual orientation is considered harassment.

It can include spreading malicious rumours, threats of intimidation, regularly undermining someone and face-to-face verbal abuse. Harassment can also happen electronically or in writing.
