Milton Keynes development awarded prestigious Gold award for outstanding design
A Milton Keynes development has achieved a prestigious Gold award from an official police security initiative for its outstanding design.
Saxon Reach, a new neighbourhood being built by L&Q in Milton Keynes, received the award from Secured by Design, which works to improve the security of buildings and their immediate surroundings.
The award, which is the highest ranking available, was based on the layout of the development, which was expertly designed with the safety of visitors and residents in mind.
The homes face onto public open space, providing clear visibility and non-intrusive natural surveillance throughout.
The layout of the development was designed to encourage people to feel safe whilst walking, with well-lit and clearly defined pavements and paths, and no dark alleyways or corners.
Craig Luttman, Deputy Group Director of Development and Sales at L&Q said, “We believe in building homes and neighbourhoods which offer people the opportunity to live a better life. Saxon Reach was designed with that in mind.
“From the homes themselves, which are built to a high-quality specification, and are larger than average. To the place itself – a welcoming neighbourhood where people can come together and feel safe. We’re delighted that Secured by Design have recognised this with this prestigious award.”
Construction started at Saxon Reach in February 2019 and is due to be completed in November 2023. In June 2020, the first residents started moving in.
The development consists of 225 new homes, a mix of market sale, shared ownership and affordable rented housing. Set near picturesque Wavendon, on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, the scheme forms part of the 2,900 home Glebe Farm development area being master planned by L&Q Estates. Alongside homes, this is set to deliver a range of retail and commercial facilities alongside a new school.
