Major Works Partner transforms resident's garden

A resident’s garden has been completely transformed, after one of L&Q’s Major Works Investment Programme partners went above and beyond.

United Living, and their subcontractor, BTS, joined forces to make a meaningful difference at the resident’s home in Leyton.

They volunteered to clear the overgrown garden of one of the housing association’s  vulnerable residents, after completing works in nearby homes in December.

The team cleared unwanted items, including a sofa, that had been left in the garden.

They also cut back years of overgrown weeds and bushes, and removed some cracked paving.

The resident said his revamped garden had a positive impact on his mental health, as well as transforming how it looked.

Mark Newstead, Director of Major Programmes at L&Q, said:

“United Living and BTS exemplify the power of collaboration and compassion, showing that small gestures can have a big impact. They really went above and beyond.

“Their selfless act inspires us all, reminding us of the importance of lending a helping hand to those in need, and why social value is such a fundamental part of the programme.”

Eloise Gray, Community Development Manager at United Living, said:

"We're delighted to have been part of this initiative. Being able to support our community in such a tangible way is truly rewarding."
