L&Q partner funds prizes for school’s Winter Festival through social value commitments

Gallion’s Primary School in Beckton received £300 for Winter Festival raffle prizes through a housing partnership.

Contractor Durkan has partnered with L&Q, one of the UK’s largest housing associations to renovate homes it manages as part of its Major Works Investment Programme (MWIP).

The organisation has signed up to a commitment to create a positive social impact in the areas which L&Q serves.

The donation funded prizes including a TV, gifts and toys. The raffles are held twice a year in summer and winter, are a major source of fundraising for the school.

As a result of the donation, the school managed to raise £1,000 to fund its wider activities.

Gallions Primary School is located on the home Winsor Park Estate, which is managed by L&Q.

The housing association has worked with the school on several initiatives over the past year, including arranging a donation of plants to help improve the environment outside the school and local community centre.

Mark Newstead, Director of Major Programmes at L&Q, said:

“It’s wonderful that our partner Durkan responded  to a call from the school for donations to ensure its Winter Festival raffle was a Christmas cracker. This will now allow the school to fund activities and resources that it may not otherwise have been able to, so will be of real benefit to the children.

It shows that our MWIP partners share our commitment to social value in the communities that we serve, especially at this time of year which reminds us about giving and helping others less fortunate than ourselves.”

Durkan is one of ten partners working with L&Q on the Major Works Investment Programme.

This will see L&Q invest around £3bn over 15 years to improve the safety, comfort, and environmental performance of residents’ homes.

Beyond improving homes, the partnership includes social value commitments to create a lasting impact in the communities where L&Q operate.
