High-rise building safety: Resident engagement
We want everyone living in our high-rise buildings to feel safe and involved in the decisions that affect your home.
We are legally responsible for managing fire and structural safety for more than 220 high-rise buildings.
Each building will have a Resident Engagement Plan that explains how we’ll work with you to keep it safe.
What the plan covers
Your Resident Engagement Plan sets out how we’ll share information, listen to you, and act on safety concerns.
It focuses on five main goals:
- Involving residents in decisions – giving you a voice in safety planning
- Sharing safety information – keeping you updated about building safety matters
- Reporting issues – helping you tell us about problems easily and quickly
- Handling complaints – making sure issues are fixed fairly and swiftly
- Making it easy for everyone to take part – removing barriers like language or access needs
How we’ll work with you
If you live in or own a flat in a high-rise building, we’ll ask for your views on your building’s Resident Engagement Plan.
You’ll receive a draft plan to review and share your feedback.
You can do this by:
- completing the online survey
- returning a paper survey by email, post or to your local housing office
- calling us on 020 8189 1652
We’ll use your feedback to update and improve the plan before it’s finalised. We aim to have all plans ready by March 2027.
Building safety decisions
A building safety decision is any choice we make about keeping your building safe.
This might include decisions related to our mandatory occurrence reporting system or building safety works, such as replacing roofing or other building components.
Before we make a decision, we’ll talk to the residents who are affected.
For example, we’ll speak to everyone in the building if the work affects shared areas. If it affects only certain homes, we’ll speak directly to those residents.
Most consultations will last around three weeks, but we may allow more time for larger or complex projects.
Making engagement accessible
We’ll make sure everyone can take part in the process.
Information can be provided in large print, easy read or other languages if needed.
All consultation documents include details in nine languages on how to request translations.
Our online surveys also work with Google Translate, so you can read and reply in your preferred language.
If you need help or want someone else to reply for you, you can authorise them to do so.
What you’ll be consulted on
We’ll ask for your views on things like:
- your building’s Resident Engagement Plan
- planned building works, such as new fire systems or cladding replacement
- other building safety measures or risk management decisions
