‘A sea of smiling faces’ at L&Q community event

L&Q’s summer programme of community get-togethers is in full swing, and the sense of connection has been clear to see.

Two recent events, held at Winsor Park Estate in Newham and the Harford Street Centre in Stepney, brought together residents, local partners and staff for days of activity, partnership and connection.

The events proved popular, with over 90 people joining us in Stepney and nearly 50 in Newham.

Residents enjoyed a wide range of family-friendly activities designed to promote active lifestyles. From chair yoga and football to arts and crafts, the programme offered something for all ages and interests.

The day was a great example of the benefits working in partnership can bring.

A range of grassroots organisations pitched in to support, including the West Ham Foundation, Lower Regents Coalition and Stepney City Farm

We also had some help from our Major Works Investment Programme partners.

Kier Group, Equans UK & Ireland and Morgan Sindall all chipped in, from sponsoring food, drinks and activities to lending a hand with a community clean-up.

Susan Offei, Community Development Manager at L&Q, said:

“From face painting and crochet to reconnecting with old friends and meeting new faces, the event was a fantastic celebration of community spirit.

We’re passionate about creating spaces where people can come together, get practical advice, and access support that can genuinely improve their lives.”

Residents had the opportunity to speak directly with their housing team and provide valuable feedback that will shape our future programmes.

Social isolation, community safety, and access to advice on employment and debt support were highlighted as priorities. These are ideas we’ll explore as we continue to tailor our support.

At L&Q, we take a place-based approach to community investment, focusing our support on areas where we can make the biggest impact.

We work closely with local residents to develop projects and fund initiatives that reflect what really matters to them.

Susan continued: “These events play a vital role in strengthening connections and supporting neighbourhoods to flourish.

They help create informed, healthy communities where everyone has the chance to thrive and feel a sense of belonging.

Thank you to everyone who came along and contributed. We look forward to building on these conversations and seeing even more smiling faces at future events.”
