HOMELIFE

A Dartford resident says her family is “ready to rebuild” their lives after their home was completely destroyed by a fire.

Sadie May and her family had to move out after a fire in a nearby scrubland spread to their home, causing extensive damage.

Our Major Works team started a project to refurbish the homes last summer, working with contractors PA Finlay. The team was able to complete the work a month ahead of schedule, allowing two of the families to move back in time for Christmas.

The floors and roofs of the home, and the two neighbouring homes, were replaced throughout, with new roof coverings, windows and external doors also installed. Repairs to the walls and outside areas were also carried out.

Internally, the walls were repaired or renewed with new heating systems, kitchens and bathrooms and internal doors installed.

Ms May said:

“L&Q’s project managers and the housing managers assigned to my home went over and beyond for us.  They are an asset to L&Q, and we really appreciate all the efforts they put into getting us back home promptly.

“The process since the fire has been emotional and to be home brings back a sense of security and belonging. The house has been beautifully renovated to a blank canvas which we as a family can rebuild."

Bradley Green, Head of Delivery in the South at L&Q, said:

“After such a difficult time for the family, we’re so happy that we’ve been able to make their home as good as new, and that they can start enjoying their wonderful home again.

“The home is as good as new, and we’re thrilled that Ms May and her family have now moved back in and are pleased with the refurbishment.

“Residents are at the heart of what we do, and I’m glad our team was able to help make the process and smooth as possible.”
