Supporting pupils in Slough

A careers skills day in Slough helped students practise professional interviews in a real-world setting.

More than 100 pupils at St Joseph's Catholic High School in Slough recently took part in an interview skills day supported by L&Q's Major Works Investment Programme (MWIP) partner, Equans.

Organised by Learning to Work, the event gave students the chance to experience a professional interview setting and develop valuable skills for their future careers.

Equans, which has supported Learning to Work for the past four years, carried out one-to-one mock interviews with students, helping them build confidence and prepare for future opportunities, whether applying for apprenticeships, university courses or employment.

Ahead of the event, each student selected one of four job roles and created a CV and cover letter tailored to that position. They then put their preparation into practice during their mock interview. 

Karen Field, Social Value Manager at Equans, said:

"The pupils came across exceptionally well, demonstrating confidence, enthusiasm and a genuine willingness to engage throughout the day.

"It was encouraging to see the level of preparation many students had put into their interviews, with thoughtful responses, positive attitudes and a clear commitment to developing their employability skills."

The event is an example of Equans' social value commitments as part of L&Q's Major Works Investment Programme (MWIP). Through the 15-year, £3 billion programme, L&Q is improving the safety, comfort and environmental performance of residents' homes while working with partners to deliver social value initiatives that support local communities.
