Somewhere over the Rainbow – in Walthamstow!
A dance club is bringing the sounds and moves of East Asia to residents in Walthamstow, east London.
Aimed at children and adults of all abilities, free dance classes are taking place every Tuesday until 12 November at Better Gym within our Stadium Place development. They've been organised by physical and mental health and wellbeing specialists Mile Rainbow CIC.
Funding for this community initiative comes from the Walthamstow Stadium Community Sports Trust (WCST), which is managed by L&Q's Foundation. Since last year, the Foundation has adopted a place-based approach to target community support where it’s needed most in areas where L&Q has the highest density of homes.
The East Asian Dance Club combines a dynamic blend of gentle martial arts and dance styles from Korean, Japanese and Chinese traditions, alongside hip hop and Bollywood moves. Classes got under way in the summer and have so far proved popular with young and older residents alike.

“Dance is a wonderful way to improve mental wellbeing while keeping physically fit and healthy. We’ve had a great response from residents who have enjoyed the opportunity to get to know each other and learn some new moves. They’ve told us it’s been a really energising and positive experience!"

“It's fantastic to see the community come together through dance. These classes offer a fun way for people of all ages and abilities to improve their wellbeing while exploring East Asian culture. We're grateful for the support from the Walthamstow Stadium Community Sports Trust, which has made this initiative possible, and we hope more residents join in.”
Stadium Place is located on a Grade II Listed site that used to be the home of Walthamstow greyhound racing track. It’s now made up of flats, maisonettes and houses available for shared ownership.
The sessions run from 4.00-5.00pm every Tuesday until 12 November at Better Gym Walthamstow Stadium.
