David Montague comments on the leadership race

David Montague, CEO of L&Q, said: “The Government recognises that housing associations have a huge role to play in making sure that vision becomes a reality.  And so, despite the distraction of Brexit, we have seen huge progress towards ending our housing crisis.  With a more proactive and interventionist Homes England, the emergence of new housing association strategic partnerships, more money for social housing, Sir Oliver Letwin’s support for greater tenure variety and a determination to tackle social housing stigma, we are making progress.

“We call on Theresa May’s successor to build on this momentum.  Housing associations are ambitious and can weather the storm of economic uncertainty. We are committed for the long term, and invest every penny of our surplus into homes and communities. We see ourselves as trusted partners of government.  Together with government, we can give Britain the certainty it needs by creating more homes and communities than ever.

“Theresa May made a commitment to fix the broken housing system.  We call on her successor to do the same.”
