Inside Housing visit Beverley Lewis House
A significant number of people with disabilities are affected by some form of abuse, many of whom are not able seek help and whose stories are never told.
Beverley Lewis House is a refuge run by L&Q Living specifically for women with learning disabilities fleeing abuse. It is the only scheme of its kind in the UK and provides a safe place and specialist support.
Due to a lack of understanding around these women's specialist support needs and the existence of schemes like ours, victims often end up in psychiatric facilities, hotels or back with their abusers.
This is why it is so important to bring this subject to national attention, raise awareness and tell these women's stories. We invited Inside Housing to interview Scheme Manager, Lisa Scivetti and meet some of the residents.
