Residents get creative for Christmas

Residents at Bramhall Close have been getting into the festive spirit with a six-week crafts course.

Delivered by Trafford College and supported by L&Q Living, each week focused on a different theme and the group made a mix of cards, homemade gift boxes and fairy decorations for the Christmas tree.

The sessions, open to L&Q and local residents, have given people the opportunity to try something new and to spend time with their neighbours in a friendly and welcoming space.

Adult learning lecturer, Alison Barrett, who has been teaching the weekly course at our Trafford based independent living scheme, said:

“Some learners feel nervous about going into a college building. Bringing the sessions into Bramhall Close means people can join in at their own pace and enjoy the social side of learning a new skill, too.”

“I only moved in six months ago,” said resident, 79-year-old, Christine Stuart. “It has been lovely getting to know more of my neighbours while learning and making crafts at the same time.”

Thursday’s final class involved making a Christmas cracker and a card, followed by a Christmas party with food and drinks.
