Summer football camp run by L&Q and Major Works Investment Programme partner

Children in Haggerston were given the chance to train with professional footballers this summer, as L&Q teamed up with one of their Major Works Investment Programme partners, Morgan Sindall Property Services (MSPS), to host a free camp.

The summer camp was held every Friday in August, for children aged between 7 and 12.

Running from 10am to 3pm, the camp taught local children, many of whom were L&Q residents, about fitness, football skills and techniques, discipline - both on and off the pitch and playing competitively.

Working with local football coaches at Impact Football Academy, all children were given professional training sessions from qualified trainers and instructors, many of whom have played for top professional clubs in the past.

The initiative was part of MSPS’s Social Value offering. One of the MWIP’s core principles is to Deliver significant levels of social value through the programme over the next 15 years.

As a result of the classes, 30 children reported a positive change in their confidence, and 29 said they had increased exercise levels.

Mark Newstead, Director of Major Programmes at L&Q, said:

“We’re so pleased to have worked with Morgan Sindall Property Services to deliver this project in Haggerston. It’s wonderful that children were able to enjoy training with talented footballers over the summer.

“Social Value is a key priority in the Major Works programme, so it’s great to see yet another example of how this is being delivered.”

Arjun Ghosh, Social Value Manager at MSPS, said:

“I was incredibly proud to be part of this initiative. We offered local children from the community a positive outlet during the holidays and helped them get exercise outdoors.”
