Walthamstow’s newest eco-scheme hosted its first-ever summer party on Sunday August 4, and it was off the chain!

Hosted by L&Q residents, the new build development was transformed into a vibrant hub of music, food, and entertainment for the day.

More than 80 attendees gathered outdoors to enjoy a lively community get-together, featuring live music and a variety of engaging activities for all ages.

The event offered something for everyone, with children participating in Olympic-style races and dog owners showcasing their pets in a Crufts-inspired competition.

The highlight for many was the diverse array of food available, reflecting the melting pot of cultures in the community. Guests sampled dishes from around the world, each plate telling a story of the neighbourhood’s varied heritage.

The party wrapped up with a prize-giving ceremony, which celebrated the winners of the day. The joyous atmosphere was palpable, with many residents expressing their enthusiasm for future community events.

Blessing Stephen, Neighbourhood Housing Lead said:

“The Chain’s summer street party was a huge hit. The turnout and feedback were fantastic. We loved seeing the community spirit shine, particularly in these difficult times. We can’t wait to host more events that bring everyone together in the future.”

The Chain, developed by L&Q, is a new 518-home neighbourhood in Walthamstow. It is part of the borough’s ‘Mini Holland’ scheme, designed to promote sustainable transport with a network of cycleways. The development is car-free and includes a community park, further encouraging a close-knit, eco-friendly lifestyle.

Perfectly in tune with its vibrant location, the event is just one example of how the Chain’s community-focused design is supporting residents to thrive and connect with one another.  With 51% of the new homes classified as affordable, the Chain prioritises housing for people living and working in the borough, contributing to the regeneration of the St James’ Quarter.
