L&Q launch new round of funding to help people get active
L&Q is making £152,000 available for community projects which help people take part in physical activities.
This marks the latest round of grants from the L&Q Foundation’s work with the Together Fund, a £40 million pot committed by the National Lottery.
The fund is for organisations that help people with long-term health conditions, disabled people, people from lower-income backgrounds and culturally diverse communities become more active.
The new round of funding, which runs until 31 March 2023, means that L&Q will manage almost £350,000 over four phases.
The housing association are one of 43 national partners selected by Sport England to distribute the National Lottery awarded money.
So far, L&Q have shared £190,000 with various projects, including some run by L&Q Living, their care and support arm, and Trafford Housing Trust, with whom L&Q are aligning.
Activities have included yoga for new mums at the Lewington Centre, physical activity programmes for adults with learning disabilities and free boxing sessions in Edmonton.
Community engagement programme Salaam Peace was given £3,590 from phase three of the fund. Formerly known as the Tackling Inequalities Fund, this was initially set up to encourage physical activity during coronavirus lockdowns.
In three months, Salaam Peace had engaged around a hundred eight to 14-year-olds from low socio-economic and culturally diverse groups, who they say are typically under-represented in sport.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Azi Mohammed, said:
“The Sport England together funding was crucial in us delivering pilot sports projects in Newham and Hackney.
“The project was well attended, and the participants are keen to continue engaging in our physical activity provisions. We eagerly anticipate the next round of funding as we want to continue delivering these provisions.”
In this latest round, we are keen to continue to support organisations reaching out to groups who could benefit most from physical activities. An increasing focus will be on helping projects recover and grow after setbacks during the coronavirus lockdowns.
Corrine Hutcheson, Head of Placemaking, said:
“We’ve already seen great results from the projects involved, and we’re looking forward to seeing more as we launch the next round of the Together Fund. This round specifically works to help some of the people who have the most to gain from becoming more active.”
