Helping deliver more than 100,000 breakfasts in schools across our priority boroughs

More than 100,000 free healthy breakfasts are being served to children across London through our partnership with Magic Breakfast.

Together, we are helping pupils across Lewisham, Southwark and Greenwich, ease into the morning with the fuel they need to get them through a day of learning.

Before lessons even start, the breakfast hall at London-based Rye Oak Primary is filled with the sound of children chatting over warm bagels, buttered toast and fresh fruit.

It is a simple morning ritual, but one that sets children up for the day and removes morning hunger as a barrier to learning that far too many children face.

Over the past year, we have worked together with Magic Breakfast – a charity dedicated to tackling morning hunger in schools of economic need. The charity is based in almost 1,000 schools across England and Scotland with high economic need.

A recent survey of our partner schools found that 94 per cent saw a positive impact on pupil concentration and 92 per cent on readiness to learn and overall energy levels.

“Through our partnership with Magic Breakfast, we’ve been able to make a real difference in tackling food insecurity across our priority boroughs.

Every child deserves to start the day with a healthy breakfast. However, the impact does not stop there, the benefits include improved school attendance, better learning and attainment outcomes, and enhanced family wellbeing.

“With the Foundation’s strong focus on addressing food poverty, we hope that this project will continue to make a valuable contribution and create a lasting difference for families across our communities”

Through the Foundation, we are supporting schools within our communities offering a mix of breakfast options, including freshly made porridge, bagels, toast, milk and plenty of fresh fruit to choose from.

“Magic Breakfast is delighted to be working with L&Q. With their incredible support, we are providing over 100,000 breakfasts for children and young people at risk of going hungry in Lewisham, Southwark, and Greenwich.

A nutritious breakfast helps ensure that no child is too hungry to learn, enabling children and young people to reach their potential. Thank you to L&Q, your support is so appreciated."
