Afternoon of sweet treats, laughter and digital training for older people
Residents at L&Q’s Hanover Way sheltered accommodation scheme were helped to get online by Major Works Investment Programme (MWIP) partner Wates Group.
The wannabe silver surfers in Bexleyheath attended a digital training workshop run by Wates’ Social Value Manager Dovile Catterick, Senior Resident Liaison Officer Alexandra Winks, and Divisional Customer Service Managers Lynne Mitchell and Stephen Shippey.
The training was aimed at helping those with little or no experience of computers or other mobile devices to become proficient and get online.
It included giving advice on international calling, picture messaging, using search engines and many more helpful tips and tricks for accessing and making the best use of mobile devices.
Alexandra said:
“During the afternoon we enjoyed some hot beverages, cakes and chocolates. We also had some fun conversations about family and friends with the residents.
The afternoon was valued by all, and we have been invited back again.”
Mark Newstead, Director of Major Programmes at L&Q, said:
“Making an impact in the communities we serve is a huge priority for us. So much of our lives are now spent online, but not everyone has the skills or confidence to use digital technologies.
Workshops like these help residents to navigate the internet, use devices and stay connected. A huge thank you to our partner Wates for managing this workshop.”
Wates Group is one of ten partners working with us on our Major Works Investment Programme.
This will see us invest around £3bn over 15 years to improve the safety, comfort, and environmental performance of residents’ homes.
Beyond improving homes, the partnership includes social value commitments to create a lasting impact in the communities where we operate.
