Senior Merton councillors praised leading housing association L&Q for delivering “imaginative development” in the borough during a tour last week.

Delivered by L&Q, Merton Councillors visited two new 100% affordable developments in Colliers Wood.

L&Q Chief Executive David Montague took Council Leader Stephen Alambritis and Cllr Martin Whelton, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Environment and Housing, on a tour of two new 100% affordable developments in Colliers Wood.

The two sites, Nelson Gardens and Morris Court, will together bring 52 shared ownership and 50 affordable rented properties to the borough.

The homes, which will be completed by early next year, are part of L&Q’s ambitious plan to enable the delivery of 100,000 new homes over the next ten years across a range of tenures, so everyone can have a quality home they can afford.

Priority for these new homes, which are a stone’s throw from Wimbledon, is given to Merton residents.

David Montague, Chief Executive of L&Q said:

“We are delighted to be working with Merton Council on delivering these new homes in the area.

“Merton is an exciting borough and the Council always put their residents first. L&Q already has 1,100 homes in Merton and we are working together to provide 102 new affordable homes at Nelson Gardens and Morris Court. The homes will give people the first step on the ladder to home ownership.  All the homes are completely affordable, to help people on all incomes to have a quality home they can afford.”

Cllr Alambritis said:

“We are excited to see these new developments providing affordable homes in the area. We need to meet demand for housing at all levels and it is great to see L&Q providing homes for all sectors of the community.

“Merton is very much open for business and we welcome this imaginative approach to development.

“L&Q has delivered an imaginative approach and we very much look forward to continuing to work together in the future to meet housing need.”

Cllr Whelton said:

“Merton is an ambitious borough, and we are ambitious for our residents

“We desperately need homes, especially affordable homes for residents. L&Q is doing a great job providing the homes we need.

“It is so important that we fully utilise the land we have, and we are very much open for business when it comes to this development.’
