L&Q seeks new Director to lead 100,000 home development programme

L&Q has today announced that it will be seeking a new Group Director for Development and Sales to lead on the delivery of 100,000 quality new homes over the next decade.

The role will become available in January 2018, when current postholder Jerome Geoghegan leaves the organisation with the intention of joining the Board of Telford Homes as its Group Land and Planning Director.

L&Q is one of the UK’s leading housing associations and developers, with more than 90,000 homes across London and the South East. The not-for-profit organisation prides itself on employing a commercial approach to delivering its social purpose, and as well as housing also provides education, training and care and support services to residents. Over the next ten years, L&Q has an ambition to enable the delivery of 100,000 new homes, half of which will be genuinely affordable to people on average and lower incomes.

As part of delivering this ambition, candidates for the role will have the opportunity to oversee landmark projects such as Barking Riverside, L&Q’s joint venture with the GLA, which will create a new town of 10,800 new homes as well as vital infrastructure, and a strategic partnership with the Mayor of London to deliver another 20,000 new homes across the capital. Their remit will also include responsibility for Gallagher Estates, one of the largest strategic land companies in the UK which was acquired by the L&Q Group earlier this year.

In the last year, L&Q has successfully negotiated a £2.6bn strategic refinancing package and completed a record £500m bond issuance to support its growth plans. These have included the re-shaping of its development and construction arms, all with the aim of scaling up to deliver 5,000 new homes a year by 2020.

David Montague, L&Q Chief Executive, said:

“Jerome spearheaded unprecedented change in L&Q’s approach to development during his time with us, and we’re looking for a successor that can continue our drive for quality and innovation in housing with equal passion. We currently have more than 80,000 homes in our development pipeline with ambition to add at least 20,000 more, so this is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of one of the biggest programmes in the country.”

Jerome Geoghegan, L&Q Group Director for Development and Sales, said:

“I’m honoured to have contributed to L&Q’s growth and efforts to increase housing supply in London and the South East. Over the past 19 years I’ve enjoyed being able to develop an award-winning approach to design which has allowed L&Q to create thriving neighbourhoods in well built, high quality homes. I’m now very much looking forward to helping design the future for Telford Homes.”
