£50,000 raised to back the next generation of L&Q scholars
Earlier this month, we hosted a sponsorship evening at West Ham Lane HQ which raised £50,000 to fund future Turlogh O’Brien scholars.

The event brought together our supply partners, scholars and colleagues to celebrate the success of the programme and the difference it continues to make to our younger L&Q residents.
Sponsors, so far, include our partners Axis, Equans and Morgan Sindall, the funds will be used to help cover tuition fees and provide mentoring support for our scholars.
On the night, guests heard directly from the scholars benefitting from the programme, they talked about their studies, future career ambitions and how the funding has supported them through university life.
The scholarship, which is delivered through the Foundation, helps to remove barriers for residents from low-income households and gives them the chance to focus on achieving their goals.
Matt Corbett, Director of L&Q Foundation, said:
“Turlogh O’Brien Scholarship is a fantastic project which demonstrates the combined impact we can have when we join up with our supply chain partners to transform the lives of young people living in communities we both serve. Since 2017, Turlogh O’Brien School has been helping our young residents access the life-changing opportunities of higher education."

Among the inspiring speakers, Alaae Brahime, who is training to become a doctor, said:
“The Turlogh O’Brien Scholarship has lifted a massive burden from my shoulders paying for two thirds of my tuition fees for four our of my six years of medical school. I have had amazing mentorship from the Foundation, it’s been life-changing for me and I can’t thank everyone who made this possible.”

Taydia Charles, who also spoke on the night and attends Kings College London and hopes to become a sports physiotherapist, said:
“L&Q have been a really big help in my journey to get to university. The support you get from L&Q, mentors and partners. It’s given me freedom not to worry about the finances too much and to focus on my studies, it’s been amazing.”
The night brought together our partners for their continued generosity and support, which is helping us open doors for more young people each year.
