Why is supported housing so important?

Supported housing schemes offer accommodation and support to vulnerable adults who need help to live independently. These schemes support a wide range of residents including the elderly, people with disabilities, mental health problems, learning difficulties and young adults.

Without this extra support vulnerable people would slip through the net and this has consequences both for them and other services such as the NHS and social care services. Supported housing is great value for money and reduces the strain on other services which are already at capacity. It is therefore vital that this service continues to be appropriately funded, not only for the residents but for society as a whole.
