An L&Q Living scheme that is helping Somali women connect with their past has featured on BBC London news.

British-Somali textile designer Hafza Yusuf has been volunteering at the sheltered scheme in Tower Hamlets to encourage female residents to connect with their cultural roots.

She has been teaching the women to work with traditional Somali textiles, prints and designs.

She said: “I wanted to engage with people and communities who haven’t had a chance to explore their creativity. I realised that there wasn’t anything creative for my community of Somali women, so I wanted to introduce them to it.

“A lot of these women have incredible stories and lives. I wanted this workshop to be a way for them to express their stories.”
