New social housing regulations - have your say

You may have seen in the news that the government have recently passed the Social Housing Regulation Act. This is part of a series of reforms that began following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

This act sets new standards which housing associations and council housing departments must demonstrate they are meeting. These standards cover four areas and mean we must:

  • prove the homes and landlord services we provide you with are safe and of good quality.
  • treat you with openness, fairness and respect and make sure you can access services, raise complaints and escalate matters where necessary, and influence our decision making and hold us to account.
  • make sure you live in a safe and well-maintained neighbourhood and feel safe in your home, working with other organisations such as local councils where needed.
  • make sure homes are allocated and let in a fair way, and tenancies are managed fairly.

We fully support the new regulation, and work is well under way to make sure we meet, or go beyond, all the new standards.

Have your say

As part of the process, the government are asking residents and landlords for their views about how these new standards will work in practice. They want to hear back by 17 October 2023.

Read the consultation in full and respond directly to the government. We also want to hear your views so we can feed these back to the government and act on them when we implement the new regulations.
