Major Works partner opens neighbourhood hub in East London

If you live in East London, and we’re working in your home as part of our Major Works Investment Programme, there’s now a dedicated space for you to visit where you can meet the team and view a model kitchen to learn more about our home improvement plans.

The Major Works hub is run by Durkan, our Major Works partner delivering improvements to the safety, quality and environmental efficiency of hundreds of homes in East London.

The new hub is housed on Cranberry Lane in Canning Town, in a space that was previously used for recycling furniture, before it became vacant several years ago.

When Durkan asked us to help find a space to meet with residents and work from, it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring this space back to life.

That’s exactly what’s happened. Durkan has turned the old facility into a welcoming hub, from which they can deliver home improvements for thousands of people in the area.

Alongside office and storage space, the hub includes a model kitchen which residents in the region can view by appointment to understand what to expect in their homes.

When Durkan are ready to leave the facility, we’ll explore making it available for wider community uses too, such as hosting local groups, workshops or events.

Mark Newstead, Director of Major Programmes adds,

“This is a great example of how our drive to improve homes can lead to other benefits. Residents receiving home upgrades from Durkan can now visit them at Cranberry Lane.

And in the longer term, an unused space has been brought back to life for potential community use. It’s a win-win, and we’re exploring how we can do more of this in other places.”

How can I visit?

If you live in East London and Durkan are carrying out works in your home, you can visit the hub and view the model kitchen.

Please reach out to your dedicated resident liaison officer (you can find their details on any recent correspondence from Durkan) to arrange this.
