Digital TV
The Government has decided that analogue television signals in the UK, which broadcast BBC1, BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Five, are going to be replaced by digital signals.
Going digital will mean there are lots more channels available and the signal will be much stronger, so the picture and sound quality will be a lot better than it is with the analogue signal.
This switchover has already started in other parts of the country. It will take place across the whole of the South East in 2012. Anyone who hasn't got access to digital television by the time of switchover will be left staring at a blank screen.
L&Q's digital switchover
Our digital switchover project will start in 2009. Contractors will visit properties with communal areas across the group over the next two and a half years. They will install new aerials and cabling in properties to ensure that residents can receive digital signals.
Where properties already have good digital TV reception to all residents, no work will be needed.
Who will the contractors visit?
Our project is focussed on communal TV aerial systems - usually buildings with four or more homes. If we need to carry out work on or near your property we'll keep you informed about what's going on and do our best to keep disruption to a minimum.
What will the contractors do?
Contractors will inspect the existing TV aerial system in the property to identify if upgrade work is required. Where it is required the contractors will install the new cabling, aerial and satellite dish that is needed.
The work will involve installing new cables and a new TV socket in your home. The work in your home should take around 30 minutes to complete.
When will the work take place?
The contractors will 'switchover' properties during 2009-2011. Letters will be sent to residents in advance of the visit to give prior warning of the visit, and with detailed information on the work needed.
Service charges
Upgrading the TV cabling and aerials will involve a one-off cost. The cost of upgrading each home will be approximately £230 (including vat). An increase in your service charge or rent will be necessary.
Further details will be sent to you once we identify if the upgrade work is needed on your property block and the cost applies to you.
For those on Housing Benefit, the increase can be claimed as extra Housing Benefit.
