Brent: L&Q bring waterside living to Alperton
Jun 20 2011
On Wednesday 15th June, Mayor of Brent, Cllr Aslam Choudry, cut the ribbon to mark the launch of a major new waterside development in Brent. L&Q’s Alperton Village, Alperton, brings a new lease of life to the Grand Union Canal providing fantastic new homes.
The £32 million development provides 186 homes and has already proved popular with house hunters. As well as outright sale apartments, the development includes homes aimed at first-time buyers available to purchase through shared ownership.
Homes are also available via L&Q’s UpToYou (rent to purchase) product, which gives residents the chance to save for a deposit whilst paying 80 percent of the local market rate for rent. There are also a number of homes available for local people for affordable rent.
The launch event saw local artist Keith Wilson unveiling his new sculpture, ‘Steles’, on the canal side. The eye-catching steel sculpture adds real colour and character to this emerging waterfront location.
Keith Wilson said, ‘As you cross the bridge to Atlip Road, ‘Steles’ comes into view like a little piece of theatre as the slender bars of colour merge and separate. Together, these colourful elements connect the two buildings with their industrial rainbow, the orange peel ripple of the pigmented surfaces picking up on the canal's reflected light.’
Speaking at the event, Mayor Choudry said, ‘These new homes are a welcome addition to the boroughs housing, including much needed affordable housing. Brent offers many types of homes and lifestyles to residents and this new Waterside complex only adds to the appeal of living in the borough. The council has embarked on a new plan for Alperton and is proposing a string of striking new housing developments along the canal from here to the North Circular road. This will transform the whole of the canal side area in Alperton.’
Tom Bremner, L&Q’s Neighbourhood Director said, “With the launch of Alperton Village it’s great to see the fruition of years of hard work and the addition of a major new development in Brent. Waterside living is as attractive as ever, and the mix of homes available in Alperton Village is testament to L&Q’s commitment to providing quality housing accessible to all in London.”
L&Q worked with the developer Mount Anvil to deliver Alperton Village. CEO of Mount Anvil, Killian Hurley said, “Mount Anvil’s close working partnership with L&Q has been the key to bringing this development to fruition and bringing much-needed new housing to the local community. Through our collaborative approach we have together delivered an outstanding mixed-use development scheme which has transformed the waterside and breathed fresh life into a formerly neglected section of the Grand Union Canal.”
