Sheltered schemes go solar
Jul 19 2010
Two sheltered schemes in South Bucks that were having their central heating systems replaced have been fitted with solar panels.
Warren Court and Bodley House have each had 10 panels installed, with a combined saving of over 3,000kg of carbon dioxide. This is reducing residents' carbon footprints, reducing their service charges and helping L&Q meet our green agenda.
Emission displays have also been fitted in the communal entrance halls so residents and visitors can see exactly how much CO2 is being saved.
John Gunn, planned maintenance team leader in the West Neighbourhood, said: "The hot water cylinders were replaced with new twin-coiled types that were linked to the solar panels. The panels preheat the water before calling for the boilers to bring it to the desired set temperature. The more the solar can preheat the water, the less gas is need for the boilers."
He added: "The contractors, Mark Group and HSM Works, completed the install within the timescales specified and the residents were very impressed with the speed and professionalism of all the staff."
