South West Fest takes off

Jul 01 2010

South West Fest

South Westminster's annual festival began recently with over 5,000 people attending the opening gala day at St.George's Square in Pimlico.

The two-week annual event, called South-West Fest, is a celebration of the rich culture, diversity, and community activity within the SW1 postcode. This year the festival has a circus theme, with a big top in place at the Chelsea College of Art & Design hosting performances on 8th, 9th and 10th of July.

L&Q is sponsoring the Main Stage at the event, upon which a variety of local acts performed.

In attendance were members of the L&Q's Neighbourhood Investment team, who were there to seek local residents' opinions on training and employment, safer neighbourhoods and healthy living.

Jon Herbert, Neighbourhood Investment Officer at L&Q, said: "It was an excellent event, with large numbers of people enjoying the sunshine, a great variety of stalls, and an array of talent on the big stage. It was so good to meet lots of people and enjoy the diversity of the area."

"A great day was had by all and we feel privileged to have supported the festival and be associated with such a massive event."

The festival is running until the 11th July 2010 and is said to offer "something for everyone," including:

  • An open air 'night at the proms' event
  • Thames river cruises
  • Football tournaments hosted by Chelsea FC.
  • 'Pimlico's Got Talent' and 'Shakespeare in the Square'
  • A healthy lifestyle day at Cardinal Place
