Work begins on South Kilburn estate in Brent
Mar 03 2010
Residents in Brent's South Kilburn estate will see big changes to their area over the next few months as demolition began this week at Marshall House and other sites in the area.
Development of the Marshall House site will start with the demolition of existing four- and five-storey blocks of flats and building of two new blocks, ranging from four floors to eleven floors in height and including 111 affordable homes. The contemporary design will set the standard for future development sites in South Kilburn, helping to contribute to the long-term regeneration of the area.
The new housing comprises 153 self-contained flats and maisonettes, three communal gardens, private garden areas to the front and rear of ground-floor properties and general landscaping of the site. There will also be children's play areas and green space incorporated into the design.
L&Q is the council's partner in the development. Rupert Moyne, L&Q's Neighbourhood Services Director said: "We are really excited about starting work on this fantastic regeneration project. We are committed to working with the local authority and residents to realise their vision for the future of South Kilburn."
Councillor Paul Lorber, Leader of Brent Council, said: "This is the start of a very exciting new period in the regeneration of South Kilburn and will build on the work that has already taken place. Brent Council and South Kilburn Partnership (SKP) are committed to the future of South Kilburn and developing plans for the long term improvement and regeneration of the area."
