The winners of the 2009 'Blooming borders' gardening competition in L&Q's West neighbourhood were announced recently.

L&Q had invited residents from across the neighbourhood to enter the annual competition and judging was as difficult as ever.

This year's winners were:

  • Best garden - Ms Violeta Karstone of Wokingham
  • Best pots/hanging baskets – Mrs Mary Brock of Norwood Green
  • Best vegetable garden – Mr Jack Penfold of Gerrards Cross
  • Best sheltered scheme – Duncan Lock House, Beaconsfield
  • Best communal garden – Willow Court, Sunbury

The overall winner was Mr Jack Penfold from Gerrards Cross.

All entrants were invited to a prize-giving event at L&Q's offices.

Rupert Moyne, L&Q Neighbourhood Services Director, said: "We really appreciate the amount of work and effort people put into their gardens. They provide pleasure to many residents in the neighbourhood. By taking care of their own gardens they raise standards and encourage others to do the same."
