New training-into-work programme launches
Jul 16 2010
The project, funded by L&Q, is piloting a new bespoke service for Greenwich Wharf residents aged 18 and above. The aim is to help residents prepare for and enter the world of work.
Created and delivered by the East London Business Alliance (ELBA), a London-based charity and regeneration agency, the programme will kick-start by offering residents the chance to sign up from July 2010.
The project will offer employability skills training and cover topics such as communication, understanding employer expectations, interview preparation and much more. Residents will commit to two weeks training in a supportive environment and have an opportunity to complete an 8-week work placement with a participating employer. On completion, residents will have the opportunity to be interviewed for a permanent position, with those that are successful moving into employment.
The kind of jobs residents will have access to will be entry-level positions like administration, reception, security, catering and much more.
David Gannicott, L&Q Regional Director for South London, said: "This is another fantastic example of the value of partnership working.
"We are very pleased to be able to deliver this project in conjunction with the ELBA and I'm confident that it will have tangible benefits, not only for our residents in the Greenwich Wharf area, but also the wider community."
How can residents get involved?
Residents who wish to be involved in the project can contact Shernade Benn, ELBA Project Manager, on 0844 406 9000.
