New training-into-work programme launches

L&Q Greenwich Wharf residents will become the first to receive training, work placements and access to jobs through the Greenwich Real Apprentice project.

The project, funded by L&Q, is piloting a new bespoke service for Greenwich Wharf residents aged 18 and above. The aim is to help residents prepare for and enter the world of work.  

Created and delivered by the East London Business Alliance (ELBA), a London-based charity and regeneration agency, the programme will kick-start by offering residents the chance to sign up from July 2010.

The project will offer employability skills training and cover topics such as communication, understanding employer expectations, interview preparation and much more.  Residents will commit to two weeks training in a supportive environment and have an opportunity to complete an 8-week work placement with a participating employer. On completion, residents will have the opportunity to be interviewed for a permanent position, with those that are successful moving into employment.

The kind of jobs residents will have access to will be entry-level positions like administration, reception, security, catering and much more.
