Job Fair proves popular with Lambeth residents
Nov 10 2011
A free jobs fair for Lambeth residents proved a real success last week, with over 550 local people attending. The jobs fair, held on Friday 4th November at Lambeth Town Hall, was also attended by Deputy Leader of Lambeth Council Cllr Jackie Meldrum and Lambeth Council Cabinet Member for Housing Cllr Lib Peck.
The fair was coordinated in a partnership between L&Q, Metropolitan Housing Trust, Viridian Housing, Hyde Housing (Hyde Southbank), Lambeth Council and the Jobcentre Plus. 28 organisations were in attendance, offering employment, advice, tips and information to job seekers.
At the fair, attendees met employers, got advice on CV writing, interview techniques and online applications, as well as guidance on getting back into employment after an extended break. Employers advertised vacancies, apprenticeships and other available opportunities at the fair.
Sectors represented at the event included construction and maintenance, hospitality, transport, security, sports and leisure. Recruitment agencies were also in attendance, as well as local training providers and information, advice and guidance organisations.
Exhibitors included, Rydon, Axis, Lakehouse, Art of Decorating, Cablesheer Group, HCT, RST, Hays, Brook Street, Unique Personnel, Morley College and Lambeth College and Jobcentre Plus.
Cllr Lib Peck said: “This was a great event for Lambeth residents to come along to and receive information on a host of opportunities available to them which will improve their employment prospects. There were a number of employers from a range of industries on hand to offer expert advice, job vacancies, and apprenticeship schemes, and it was great to see so many Lambeth residents in attendance.”
Maud Gambier-Ellis, L&Q neighbourhood investment officer for Lambeth, said: “It’s fantastic that we all worked together on this project, as housing associations we are all committed to helping residents back into work. By working in partnership were able to secure attendance from a range of organisations whose experts gave invaluable advice to help people into training and employment. The support of Lambeth Council, the Jobcentre, the local colleges and employers has been amazing and the event was a real success.”
