Lambeth Jobs Fair for local residents

Oct 31 2011

Croydon Jobs Fair

Lambeth residents are being invited to attend a free jobs fair at Lambeth Town Hall in the Assembly Hall on Friday 4th November 2011 from 11am to 3pm.

The fair is being coordinated in a partnership between L&Q, Metropolitan Housing Trust, Viridian Housing, Hyde Housing (Hyde Southbank), Lambeth Council and the Jobcentre Plus. 28 organisations will be in attendance, offering employment, advice, tips and information to job seekers.

At the fair, attendees will be able to meet employers, get advice on CV writing, interview techniques and applications online as well as guidance on getting back into employment after an extended break. Employers will be advertising vacancies, apprenticeships and other available opportunities at the fair.

Sectors represented at the event include construction and maintenance, hospitality, transport, security, sports and leisure. Recruitment agencies will also be in attendance, as well as local training providers and information, advice and guidance organisations.

Confirmed exhibitors so far include, Rydon, Axis, Lakehouse, Art of Decorating, Cablesheer Group, HCT, RST, Hays, Brook Street, Unique Personnel, Morley College and Lambeth College and Jobcentre Plus.

A similar Jobs Fair in Brixton held in March was extremely popular with over 170 residents attending.

Lambeth Council Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Lib Peck, will be attending the event and said: “This is a great event for Lambeth residents to come along to and receive information on a host of opportunities available to them which will improve their employment prospects. There will be a number of employers from a range of industries on hand to offer expert advice, job vacancies, and apprenticeship schemes. I urge asmany people as possible to attend and take advantage of what this event can offer them.”

Maud Gambier-Ellis, L&Q neighbourhood investment officer for Lambeth, said: “It’s fantastic that we are all working together on this project, as housing associations we are all committed to helping residents back into work. By working in partnership we are able to secure attendance from a range of organisations whose experts will be giving invaluable advice to help people into training and employment. The support of Lambeth Council, the Jobcentre, the local colleges and employers has been amazing and we look forward to the event.”
