Merton: Apprentice winner gives advice to residents

Apprentice winner Lee McQueen

L&Q teamed up this week with Merton Priory Homes (MPH), to host an employment and training event on the 11 November in Merton where 2008s 'The Apprentice' winner, Lee McQueen gave advice to residents.

The event took place at The Vestry Hall, London Road in Mitcham from 10am-3pm and was open to all Merton residents. As well as a presentation from Lee McQueen there was workshops and advice provided by a range of employment experts including: CV workshop, interview skills, starting up a business, developing a social enterprise, career matching and benefit advice.

Kevin Jones, Neighbourhood Services Director from L&Q said, "We have been working in partnership with our residents, Merton Council and MPH for some time now to help residents with employment opportunities. We are committed to creating opportunities for residents and this event forms part of that work. The event was well recieved by residents and we have recieved positive feedback from those who attended."

Pauline Ford, Managing Director for Merton Priory Homes, said: "The event was a great opportunity for residents looking for work. They were able to learn important skills, get useful advice and answers to their questions. We are excited to have been a part of this important event which will enhance the life chances of people in the area."

The event was organised by L&Q and MPH and supported by Groundwork, Job Centre, Merton Council, Rathbone, Merton College, Grenfell and Hays Recruitment.
