Lambeth: health roadshow going well
Jun 16 2009
Residents have been taking part in all sorts of free activities as part of a health and well-being roadshow across the borough of Lambeth.
Free smoothies drew lots of people into the roadshow at the Brixton Recreation Centre last Thursday (11th June). Activities included Tai Chi, 'grow your own herbs', back, shoulder and hand massage, health MOTs and cooking workshops.
Everyone really got in the spirit of the event. One attendee said: "I think it is great that L&Q fund projects like this for their residents. It shows they are committed to improving health in a deprived area where it is a big problem."
People received free bags of fruit and vegetables to take home, ranging from carrots and potatoes to physalis and pak choi.
The roadshow aims to tackle health inequalities, promote well-being and improve access to health services and information. It is funded by the Big Lottery Fund and delivered by L&Q with other housing associations including Family Mosaic and Presentation.
Events have been taking place at various locations in Kennington / Oval, central Brixton and Streatham. See the June health and well-being roadshows leaflet for more details. The final events will be at Streatham Leisure Centre on Thursday 18th June and Brixton Town Hall on Saturday 20th June.
