On Wednesday 14th September, Councillor Chris Robbins, Leader of Waltham Forest Council attended the official opening of a new housing development in Leyton.

Grove House, High Street, Leyton, is a residential development from L&Q. It comprises of 33 new homes, offering a mix of rental products, including homes for affordable rent and Intermediate Market Rent (IMR). IMR gives people the opportunity to save toward a deposit to buy a home by paying rent at 20-30% less than the market rate.

The majority of the development is new build, but the old Grove House working men’s club building has been retained to keep a sense of history, and now acts as the centre of the development. It has been transformed into high quality new homes, while L&Q has provided a brand new hall within the development for use as a new working men’s club.

The launch event was marked by Cllr Robbins’ unveiling of a commemorative plaque. He said, “Ensuring our residents have access to good, affordable, high-quality housing is a massive priority for the Council, and schemes like these are just what we need.

"Leyton is already seeing some tremendous improvements in the run-up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games thanks to funding to improve our streets, shop-fronts and parks, and projects like these are a perfect complement to what the Council is doing."

Grove Park opened to residents in early August. Tia Roome, 20 and partner Darren Harley, 21 along with their four month old daughter Bailey-May, were among the first to move into Grove House last month and the young family have already settled into their new home. Tia said, “This is a lovely place to live, and there is a really good sense of community amongst the new residents.

“We wanted to find a safe and secure place to bring up our daughter, and Grove House fit the bill perfectly. Leyton is definitely an area on the up, and as soon as we saw this property we knew it was right for us. L&Q made the process really easy, from our first viewing through to us moving in their support and management has been great."

L&Q manages nearly 3,000 homes within Waltham Forest, and this new development continues its commitment to providing high quality homes to suit a range of incomes.

Sue Gatrell, L&Q’s Assistant Director for Neighbourhood Services North East said, “Grove House is a great example of how L&Q continues to deliver much needed new homes in London.

“This development is just one example of the great work we are involved in within Waltham Forest, and continues our commitment to providing homes to suit a range of incomes. Products such as Intermediate Market Rent offer a great way for local people to find a way onto the housing ladder.”
