Funday at the Beaumont Estate in Leyton
Aug 16 2010
On 7 August organisations from across Waltham Forest came together on the Beaumont Estate in Leyton to celebrate 'Beaumont Day' organised by housing association L&Q's North East Neighbourhood Investment Team.
The community funday was funded by L&Q and their maintenance contractor Seddons. The day was a great success with over 800 residents attending the event over the course of the day. The event was also attended by John Cryer MP.
'Beaumont Day' celebrated L&Q's regeneration of this once run down estate and highlighted the wealth of community spirit in the area. Activities taking place on the day included, a climbing wall, bouncy castles, information stalls, face painting, a fashion show put on by local young people, body popping performances, henna stalls, yoga lessons and much more. Music was provided on the day by local radio station Streetlife FM.
Event organiser Alkas Rahman, L&Q Neighbourhood Investment Officer, said: "The best part of the day was seeing the community come together and taking ownership of the day. At L&Q we are committed to working with our residents and we hope to hold similar events on the estate in the future."
