Banking on our younger residents

Young residents in Leyton are being given the chance to distribute money to other youngsters for projects which will boost the local community.

This scheme is known as a Youth Bank and it has already been running successfully in nearby Enfield for several years. A panel of young people are given training and then other youngsters can bid for up to £500 for projects that will improve their neighbourhood. In Enfield more than £8,000 has been allocated to sport and dance programmes and local youth clubs.

Suzanne Thomas from L&Q said: "This project not only directly benefits the community through the investment, but the Youth Bank members also learn about financial responsibility and the importance of working as a team to make judgements."
