Life's a gas for young residents

Gas trainees

L&Q has teamed up with British Gas to create a fully-funded training programme for young residents.

The “Get Started” scheme will enable seven L&Q residents to become ACS accredited domestic gas engineers. They have already started the 32-week course at Dartford Engineering Academy, which includes both classroom and on-site training. By the end of the course they will have the necessary skills and knowledge to install and service a range of gas central heating systems.

L&Q has funded the programme through its “EnergySave” scheme and also provided equipment for the trainees to maximise the benefits they get from the course. L&Q will also cover the trainees’ travel expenses.

Robin Feeley, Head of Sustainable Development at L&Q, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our residents to get a helping hand into long-lasting employment. They earn a well-respected qualification with a well-known company.

“The seven trainees started their course on November 19th and the instructor has already said that the group have a brilliant attitude.”

Six of the trainees are aged 18-25 and one is in his thirties. Everyone who successfully completes the programme will achieve ACS accredited gas competency categories CCN1/CENWAT (Gas Safe).
