Residents honoured at Creating Places Awards
Nov 25 2011
A fantastic night was had by all at the recent ‘Creating Places Awards’. The awards, which were established by L&Q in 2007, recognise those residents who make a positive contribution to their local community and L&Q, and go the extra mile to be good neighbours.
The ceremony, held at London’s Millennium Mayfair Hotel, was hosted by TV presenter and charity campaigner Gloria Hunniford. A total of eight awards were given out to residents, with categories ranging from Young Resident of Year to Lifetime Contribution.
David Montague, L&Q’s Chief Executive said, "All tonight’s winners and nominees have shown great commitment and dedication to working with L&Q. These awards give us the opportunity to celebrate some of the wonderful contributions our residents make to their communities. Every resident at the ‘Creating Places Awards’ has shown that great things can be achieved through hard work, dedication and kindness. Residents such as those we’ve seen tonight help us to continue creating places where people want to live and are an inspiration to others"
Gloria Hunniford enjoyed hearing about the achievements of the award winners and nominees, and said "The stories I have heard about the L&Q residents at these awards are amazing, heart-warming and inspiring. When people work together they start looking out for each other and helping each other and that is what builds the fabric of a community. If you don’t socialise and interact with the people around you it can become quite depressing and you can become isolated, but when there is a strong community spirit people feel safer and happier and neighbours become friends."
She added: "I so enjoyed meeting them all and a huge congratulations to everyone who was nominated for a Creating Places award. Hopefully people reading the stories about these L&Q residents will be inspired to do something themselves and help build a better community in some way."
