L&Q resident Susan Randall has been shortlisted for a Tenant Participation Advisory Service (TPAS) 'tenant of the year' award in recognition of the difference she makes to her local community.

Sue, who lives in Croydon, has been chair of her local residents' association for 13 years. She has driven its work forward, setting up youth clubs and community fairs and introducing an OAP club, drumming and line dancing at the community centre. She also set up pamper days to improve people's well-being. One resident commented: "When I come here, it's the best feeling I get all month. To have this for free is fantastic."

Sheryl Martin, Neighbourhood Investment Officer at L&Q, nominated Susan for the award: "I am constantly amazed by Sue's ability to take on all this responsibility, and her commitment to it. She balances her community work with the challenges she faces in her everyday life, being the guardian of her three grandchildren and caring for her daughter who has been long-term ill."

Susan has worked hard to receive funding from the Big Lottery and other sources for projects. She is also a key figure on neighbourhood committee and policy steering groups.

The TPAS 'tenant of the year' award for people who go beyond the call of duty and make a lasting difference to their fellow tenants and neighbours. Each award is being contested in three regions - North, Midlands and Southern – and Susan has reached the final 12 in the Southern Region. The regional winners will be announced on 15th April and will go forward to the national final.
