Greener Homes

An environmental scheme to help L&Q residents save money is being extended.

The Greener Boroughs project was started in Greenwich and helped residents there save an average of £163 on their fuel bills. Following this success, the project is now being brought to 3,600 more residents across Newham, Lambeth and South Buckinghamshire.

L&Q teamed with British Gas to launch Greener Boroughs after annual household energy bills reached an all time high of £1,200 last year – an increase of £465 since 2006.

The project offers residents energy saving equipment, insulation, home assessments, and behaviour change advice. We have arranged for British Gas to supply the equipment to residents throughout the summer. The University of Greenwich will then visit residents in all boroughs where the project is running and encourage them to monitor their energy consumption and establish long-term energy savings.

Louise Brennan from L&Q said: “The year-long programme goes beyond giving residents free equipment. It also involves spending quality time helping people adopt greener behaviours to ensure that our residents are using energy saving equipment effectively. Being on the programme will also help residents make savings by reducing unnecessary energy waste.”

We hope to roll the project out to other boroughs in the future.
