Residents' Associations
Residents that want to make a real difference to where they live can join their local Residents' Association, or if they don't have one, they can take the lead and set one up. Residents' Associations have proven to be very good for promoting community spirit, tolerance and cooperation amongst local residents.
Currently, we work with over 35 associations across L&Q. We provide support and advice in setting them up and in running them, including providing grants to help to cover the running costs.
What do Residents' Associations do?
Resident Associations get involved in a wide range of areas. These can include some of the following:
- Inform residents of their rights and generally help in tackling any problem they have in relation to their housing.
- Put pressure on us to do things e.g. repairs, maintain standards of decoration/ maintenance or provide improvements such as play areas.
- Establish a good working relationship with us to improve the housing service.
- Represent residents views and report back to them on any news or concerns of we may have.
- Help keep residents informed of the issues affecting the estate/ area they live in through newsletters, open meetings, etc.
- Help resolve disputes between residents.
- Campaign on local issues e.g. planning applications, schooling, traffic hazards etc.
- Negotiate on behalf of individuals or groups of residents.
- Organise social, leisure or educational activities for their estates or area.
- Help promote estate or area based activities such as good neighbour schemes, neighbourhood watch etc.
