Waqar has worked for L&Q since 1998.

Previous roles at L&Q

In his previous role as Director of Treasury and Investment, he led on the group investment strategy, playing a key role in seeing the organisation grow by 50% and doubling its financial capacity.

Waqar also delivered our treasury strategy, which has seen the loan book rise to £1.4 billion at the most efficient margins and terms seen in the sector.

Group Director of Finance

In February 2008, Waqar was appointed as the Group Finance Director.

His immediate priorities included simplifying the group structure and developing a new financial model and investment strategy. This will ensure that L&Q remains financially strong and is prepared to meet the challenges brought by the harsher economic climate. Our investment strategy ensures that we can sustain a large development programme and not rely on sales to meet financial obligations.  

Waqar supported the development of UpToYou, our intermediate rent product. The UpToYou product can sustain confidence in the construction market and will prove to be the starting point of a new model for the future of housing supply.

Our treasury strategy paves the way to secure future funding through diversified markets supported by achieving excellent credit ratings from Standard & Poors.

A key driver for Waqar is to provide opportunity and support the development of people in the finance department.

Personal life

Waqar qualified as a chartered certified accountant in 1991 from the University of Wales. He is married and has 3 young children.
