L&Q joins One Planet Products as a ‘Core Member’

One Planet Products, an award winning not-for-profit service has recruited some the UK's leading developers, housing associations and architects to drive a green supply chain and help reduce the environmental impact of housing developments. L&Q became one of the founding ‘Core Members’ this week.

Managed as a member led club One Planet Products identifies potential suppliers of environmentally sustainable products and undertakes an assessment of the products and suppliers in relation to the One Planet Living® principles.

Should the results be satisfactory the products are listed on the website along with the Code for Sustainable Homes credits available and environmental information, including CO2 and water saved. The site also includes a cost comparison section, with information on expected lifetime and pay back periods.

The website and the next phase of this innovative service were launched at the House of Commons on Monday 23rd June at a reception hosted by Malcolm Wicks MP.

In order to ensure that One Planet Products meets the needs of the industry it has recruited a team of leading professionals who will guide the product selection and prioritise areas of research.

Alongside L&Q other Core Members include:
• BioRegional Quintain Ltd
• Chevin Housing Association
• Crest Nicholson PLC
• Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios
• Rydon Construction Ltd
• Town and Country Housing Association

Robin Feeley, L&Q’s Sustainable Development Manager attended and spoke at the launch, he said "The pressure to deliver environmentally and ethically sustainable housing is increasing all the time - in order for L&Q to deliver sustainable communities that fit with the wider government agenda, it is vital we develop a sophisticated understanding of the "green" supply chain. One Planet Products (OPP) offers us exactly that."
