L&Q projects shortlisted for awards

Neighbourhood Investment AwardsTwo of our neighbourhood investment projects are shortlisted for awards this year.

L&Q’s Haddo Community Centre project on the Rubicon estate in Greenwich, South East London, has been short-listed for ‘Partnership working’ in the National Housing Federation (NHF) Awards 2008.

The development of the new community centre was been driven by a steering group of local stakeholders and residents. This group oversaw consultation with local partners and residents and developed arrangements for how it would be managed.

The steering group is committed to establishing the centre as the hub of the local neighbourhood: sustainable, vibrant and delivering valuable services.

L&Q’s Horley Youth Project in Surrey is short-listed for ‘Contributing to wider community agendas’ in the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Awards 2008.

The youth project was set up in July 2007 by L&Q with local partners in response to rising concern around anti-social behaviour and low-level crime.

It aims to provide a safe space for young people to play, learn, take part in sport and cookery and develop social skills. It is open on Tuesday evenings for football and other sports and on Friday evenings as a youth club.

The winners of both awards will be announced in September 2008.
