L&Q has teamed up with a youth sports scheme to deliver free football to residents in Merton, south west London.
Kickz was set up by the Football Foundation to engage young people in a range of constructive activities. They aim to reduce anti-social behaviour, break down barriers between the police and young people, and increase playing, coaching and officiating opportunities for young people.
Each programme is affiliated with a Premiership football club, giving it extra credibility. Fulham FC delivers the training sessions in Merton.
Kickz provides football sessions twice a week. These have been attended by up to 60 young people of all abilities. A third ‘alternative’ night delivers activities around issues of concern to the young people involved, such as sexual health and relationships.
