Sheltered Scheme Residents get the “Message in a Bottle”

Working with the Lions Club International, the Neighbourhood Investment for Supported Housing has secured over 3000 ‘Message in a Bottle’ containers.

These provide Emergency Services with information relating to any illnesses or allergies residents may be suffering from, any medication taken and contacts of persons to be contacted in the event of a sudden accident or illness whilst at home. This information could prove vital in the event of an emergency.

All our residents living within L&Q sheltered schemes now have access to these containers through their Support Workers.

The scheme is very simple; the emergency details are stored in a small plastic container which is then kept in the fridge. Two small stickers, immediately recognisable to the emergency services are displayed one on the front door and the other on the fridge door and this alerts the emergency services to the location of the container and its contents.

One resident from Catalina Court said “this is such a fantastic idea and so simple to use. In the time it takes for a paramedic to find out what is wrong with you it could be too late, this will save so much time and save lives too.”

Sonia Bernard, Head of Quality for Supported Housing said “We are very grateful to the Lions Club who have been keen to support us in our aim to secure the safety of our residents”.

This scheme is completely free to individual residents and further information regarding the work of Lions Club International can be obtained from: www.lions.org.uk
