L&Q helps run health promotion week in Brixton

Residents of Angell Town and St Matthews in Brixton had a chance to get active and re-energise during a recent health promotion week supported by L&Q.

Activities included samba dancing, street dance and kung-fu. Trained professionals guided youngsters through circus skills - including stilt walking and unicycling - and showed them the energy and fitness zone at nearby Brixton Recreation Centre.

On the Saturday residents were challenged to take health MOTs, have their blood pressure checked and unwind with relaxing massages (pictured below). There was a football tournament, window box planting (pictured above) and plenty of information and advice. There were portions of fruit available to promote the ‘five-a-day’ message and all residents received a bag of fruit and vegetables to take home.

Sharon Heslop of South Neighbourhood's neighbourhood investment team said: “The aim of the week was to show residents that keeping fit isn’t just about sports - there are other ways to exercise with the whole family – and to show that we are committed to improving residents’ wellbeing.”

L&Q ran the event in partnership with Lambeth Council, Presentation and Family Mosaic.

The neighbourhood investment team is also busy consulting young people on the St Matthew’s estate about how life there could be improved.
