Haggerston West and Kingsland in Hackney, East London

L&Q is preparing for the stock transfer of 480 homes at the Haggerston West and Kingsland estates in Hackney, east London.

We plan to demolish the existing 480 flats, over two phases, and build 761 new homes. These will include homes for affordable rent, shared ownership and market sale. All current residents will be able to come back to the area if they wish.

We worked closely with residents on these proposals. We offered opportunities to meet L&Q staff, held a consultation day and sent them a DVD showing plans for the estate. In October 2007, 81.9% of the 71.5% secure tenants who turned out voted to transfer their homes from Hackney Council to L&Q.

The estates are expected to transfer to L&Q later in 2008. Over the next five years we will invest £150 million in transforming the estates and breathing new life into the neighbourhood.
